Sparkle eyeliner, big ol' acrylic nails, oversize knock-off sunglases: You name it, we packed it on for prom. In celebration of the hot mess local ladies call formal wear, Prom Trash Philly is challenging everyone to throw on a Joyce Leslie gown and compete for the tiara.
Now in its 12th year, the Prom — which was started by local theater group the Dumpsta Players — is still celebrating in all its kitschy glory. Ladies and gentlemen will be judged on hair, dress, a Q&A and overall trashiness. Rounding out the magical evening will be host Princess Disgrace and music by Pink and Hall & Oates drag impersonators. For those who decide they want to compete last-minute, founder Ricky Paul will bring along a bin of dresses and wigs, although he insists there's nothing to be nervous about. "Just bring your chutzpah," he says. "And talk to some nasty drag queens ahead of time for some good one-liners."
