It's never easy to leave a Jim Houser installation. Those lovely little monsters, his signature octopuses, bits of poetry suspended above handmade flowerpots: Sorry, Philadelphia, but this world always felt more like home. Luckily for gray streets across the city, Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction has added the local artist to its roster.
Now under the direction of Space 1026 co-founder Ben Woodward, Art in the Age produces basics such as totes, tees and hoodies featuring original work by both Philly-based and national artists. Playful vines creep quietly up from the bottom of Houser's ivory tee (pictured), while Thom Lessner pays homage to a particularly flamboyant David Lee Roth. Other new T-shirts include Lori Damiano's "Lift And Pulse," on which middle-aged women get down at aerobics class, and Keith Shore's very huggable "Neon Embrace."
