In The Event That...

You Own Multiple Button Makers

Published: May 14, 2008

Start Your Own Etsy Shop: Wed., May 21, 7-9:30 p.m., $35, registration required, Coral Street Arts House, 2446 Coral St., phillysewing.org, girlscantell.etsy.com

When the crocheted, googly-eyed octopuses and fuzzy knit can cozies start invading beyond sewing room borders, it might be time to start selling. At a class sponsored by the Philadelphia Sewing Collective, local artist and Philadelphia Etsy team member Sara Selepouchin will teach DIYers the basics of setting up their first online stores.

Best described as eBay for hand-crafted items, Etsy.com is a sprawling e-market of jewelry, housewares, apparel and art that unites artisans with buyers. Selepouchin's modern screenprints of bicycles and Holga cameras on homey oven mitts and tea towels can be found at her Etsy shop, Girls Can Tell, as well as local boutiques. At the workshop, she'll cover selling, marketing, item naming and description, promoting and photography for online shopping.
