Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) is giving the Art Museum steps a break from Rocky wannabes for a dose of Zen. A support organization for women who have survived the disease, LBBC will help raise awareness and funds through Yoga Unites, as well as bring the breast cancer community together in an enlightened forum.
Now in its sixth year, the outdoor class will be led by instructor Jennifer Schelter and is a basic, beginner course open to the public. Last year, more than 550 survivors and supporters came out to bend and breathe. Sue Faden, a breast cancer survivor who currently resides in Philadelphia, spoke at last year's event and plans to attend again. "You can feel the collective energy during the class," she says. "Everyone who takes part is touched individually and that is such a beautiful thing. When I first did this, I felt like a strong woman again."
