In 1935 Marshall, Texas, college professor Denzel Washington (who directed the film and co-wrote the script) leads an all-black student debate team that goes up against the all-white Harvard team. Bon Voyage II: More Vintage Travel Films Secret Cinema brings back this popular program, with a different selection of promotional and educational travel films from the first half of the century — including In Old New Orleans, made in the way-pre-Katrina 1930s; 1926's Hawaiian Islands, featuring Waikiki Beach surfers, the story of the Dole Pineapple cannery and an active volcano; and 1918's Sights of Suva, a rare short in which famed travel writer/photographer/filmmaker Burton Holmes explores the capital of Fiji and refers to the locals as "sons of Fiji cannibals."
