Your wall clock can't solve the energy crisis and your calendar serves no humanitarian purpose, but rest assured that there are some wall adornments that do a world of good.
Now in its 18th year, MANNA's "A Show of Hands" gathers and auctions off fine arts, jewelry, paintings and photographs created by local and national artists. Proceeds benefit MANNA, a nonprofit that provides food and other assistance to those living with HIV, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. This year's auction will feature Philadelphia-area artists Diane Burko, Karim Rashad and David Graham (whose Camille Terry as Marilyn Monroe is pictured), among many others. TV host Brini Maxwell, a MANNAfest mainstay, will also make an appearance, and cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
While attendees are not required to bid on art, MANNA's CEO, Richard Keaveney, says the items on auction and the event itself doesn't have to be outrageously expensive."You're getting great art for a really good price," he says. "We try to cross all economic lines to ensure that everyone can be a part of this."
The evening also features a preview party one hour before the show, giving viewers the opportunity to purchase before the bidding wars begin.
Fri., May 30, 5 p.m., $60-$175, Galleries at Moore, Moore College of Art & Design, 1916 Race St., 215-49-MANNA, mannapa.org.
