To bolster its already-enthusiastic following in the city's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Theatre Festival founders Matthew Cloran and Bill Esher want their sixth season's half-dozen productions — "Six in the City" — to reach a wider audience.

Three plays run in repertory at Mum Puppettheatre: Facing East by Carolyn Lynn Pearson, portraying Mormons coping with their gay son's suicide, June 17 to 19; David Sisco's Bait, a comedy acclaimed at the 2006 National Gay & Lesbian Theatre Festival, June 20 to 22; and My Left Breast, Susan Miller's uplifting solo play about her cancer battle, June 22 to 27. Keith Bunin's The Busy World Is Hushed, about a woman minister conflicted by her son's coming-out, plays at the Arden's Arcadia Stage June 20 to 27.

Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin, creators of the hit Off-Broadway musical The Last Session, bring The Big Voice: God or Merman? to Plays & Players Theatre this Friday and Saturday. This musical comedy about an Arkansas Baptist and a Brooklyn Catholic chronicles their own relationship.

The revue Q also celebrates another union, between 25-year partners and co-writers Dan Martin and Michael Biello. Featuring Gregg Pica as Tipsy, a "transgoddess" who dispenses relationship advice ("Q tips"), Q plays at the Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 June 18 to 28.
