Mrs. Pleasant (aka Emily Amarnick) has been quite the busy lady since returning home to Philly after a little affair in Brooklyn. In addition to offering vintage men's and women's clothing, accessories and handmade cards, Mrs. Pleasant will now cater your next event. Amarnick has expanded her brand to showcase her talents in the kitchen with a focus on seasonal vegan and vegetarian food. Highlights from the summer menu include spicy tofu with soba noodles and veggies; peanut butter and banana smoothies; and pineapple cucumber gazpacho. (Although if you really need mac-and-cheese at your First Friday opening, she can hook it up and then some.) Get a taste and check out her latest finds (including '60s swimwear and eyeglasses) at a party with DJ Meeshu in her South Philly showroom/home. (More Pictures Below)
It's not usually this space's policy to advocate anything that involves tents, but Omoi is proving to be the exception. The cute-ique's three-day tent sale is setting up in the backyard with $10-$12 tees for ladies and gentlemen as well as 40 percent off regular-price apparel. Labels to start making room in your closet for include Hellzbellz, Rojas, tokidoki and WeSC (although not that lovely knitted sweater dress, if you ungrateful brats know what's good for you).
There are a lot of things to love about the Philadelphia Independent Craft Market, but the blessedly air-conditioned 941 Theatre is shaping up to be one of the series' most welcome aspects. (Punk Rock Flea Market, we love you, but we're also pretty sure we can still smell you.) Gearing up for round three, July's installment will feature live sets by Chris Kasper, the Spinning Leaves, Crow vs Lion and Joe Duffey Music. As for the shopping, vendors include local artist Nicole Rae Styer and Girard Ave. vintage boutique Reverie. While there's only one more scheduled date (Sat., Aug. 9), co-organizer Julie Raboczi promises she's looking into extending the market into the fall.
Wait a hot second before hauling your entire hot mess of a closet over to Yo. Although the studio and gallery is hosting a clothing swap, they're going for a much tamer, much more selective event. Not everything needs to be Michael Kors, but host and Yo marketing assistant Brooke Whitaker recommends bringing two or three quality pieces that you still love but are willing to trade for something new and equally fabulous. It's the first of what they hope will evolve into a monthly swap, but don't hold out on us during prime-time summer wedding season.
