THEATER
Think All in the Family meets Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and you just might scratch the surface of what Lingering is all about.Dark and satirical, Robert DeFelice's play takes place over the course of a night when a dysfunctional modern American family is visited and subsequently attacked by terrorist clowns. "I read that 66 percent of people in the U.S. report coming from a dysfunctional family," says DeFelice. "There's something in Lingering that'll make the audience go, 'That's familiar to me.'"
This will be the first show presented by Last Minute Fusion, a nonprofit production company for which DeFelice serves as artistic director. It was founded a few months ago by twentysomethings in film who also want to be in theater.
The show's intermission was cut, DeFelice says, to help the audience digest the macabre themes without a shift in atmosphere. But he's confident that people will be receptive to the play's taboo nature. "I'm trusting the Philadelphia audience because they take it for what it is," DeFelice says. "This is a very open-minded place."
