River City Festival
Sat., Sept. 13, noon-5:30 p.m., free

This Fishtown Neighbors Association-organized event will celebrate everything Center City's booming northern cousin has to offer. There's a 5K run at 9 a.m., historical tours and musical performances, but the near-neighbor eats at noon are the biggest draw for us: Sample artichoke nachos from Hinge Café, tapas from Quince Fine Foods, Cajun salmon from O'Reilly's Pub and more. Penn Treaty Park, 1199 N. Delaware Ave., rivercityfestival.org.

Second Annual Beer Olympics
Sat., Sept. 13, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., $45

In what could technically be considered the 30th Olympiad, four-person teams will pay subtle homage to Beerfest by competing in pong, flip cup, quarters, trivia and more. Admission includes a pitcher, a T-shirt, access to beer specials and food. Look out for "The Gauntlet," an event "so severe" that organizers refuse to release details on it. Visit rollingbarrel.com to purchase tickets. Manayunk Brewery, 4120 Main St., 215-482-8220, manayunkbrewery.com.

The Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes
Fri., Sept. 12, 6:30 p.m., $40

White Dog celebrates a quarter-century of existence with this year's Dance of the Ripe Tomatoes block party. The evening will include live performances, a presentation from local farmers who've supplied Judy Wicks' restaurant over the years, a photo retrospective, a cash bar and a farm-fresh buffet that'll feature grub like Meadow Run pork loin roasted in mustard and Victory Prima Pils. White Dog Café, 3420 Sansom St., 215-386-9224, whitedog.com.

Ninth Annual Jenkintown Jazz and Brewfest
Sun., Sept. 14, 1-6 p.m., free ($25-$30 for beer tent)

Shake your head sideways to free performances by David Schnitter and Barbara Walker before hitting the admission-only beer tent to sample local brews (Philadelphia Brewing Co., Legacy, General Lafayette) and American craft superstars (Rogue, Redhook) among others. Food from Ortino's BBQ, Wild Dog House, Fiesta Pizza and more. Jenkintown Town Square, Greenwood Avenue and Leedom Street, Jenkintown, jenkintownjazzandbrewfest.com.
