"The day will even come when Russia and their [sic] newfound Islamic allies decide to destroy Israel." —Charlie Daniels

It's pretty much impossible to discuss Georgia without also discussing the man whose band performed "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," Charlie Daniels. And it's pretty much impossible to discuss Charlie Daniels without using the words "naïve," "reactionary" and "outhouse." That's why we're about to discuss the other Georgia — the former Soviet republic that naïve, reactionary Sarah Palin thinks she can see from the roof of her outhouse.

Forget for a few minutes that Stalin was born in Georgia, and that Georgia invaded South Ossetia. We're not here to discuss history or politics; we're here to talk about music. And to savagely mock Charlie Daniels.

Trio Kavkasia's The Fox and the Lion (Traditional Crossroads) is a satisfying little CD of Georgian vocal music: What accompaniment that can be heard is minimal indeed. According to the liner notes, these songs are normally sung while "wielding the plow, encamped on the battlefield, or imbibing wine during a wedding toast." Great. Another Georgia full of drunken, violent farmers.

One of you more talented readers should buy this CD, add some backing tracks and die having fulfilled your destiny.

"A redneck would protect the Constitution and have the guts to stand up to the people who want to take God out of public life in America." —Charlie Daniels

Verdict:

South Ossetia, much like the American South, will never rise again — it'll just lay there like a bloated, semi-literate inbred redneck. Now buy this CD.
