You may not need a permit, but hunting the haunted is no joke. Smirk all you want, but it's got to be harder to nab a demon than a deer. Still skeptical? Head on over to Laurel Hill Cemetery Saturday evening, when investigators from South Jersey Ghost Research — a professional nonprofit that's been in the biz since 1955 — will be sharing some of the ins and outs of the trade for non-believers and believers alike.
The evening workshop includes four stations as well as a ghost hunting history primer. At the Ghost Hunter Lab, visitors will listen in on voices from beyond (officially known as Electronic Voice Phenomena) captured during actual SJGR cases. The lab also includes a demo of the team's new night vision equipment, which has helped director Dave Juliano snap an unprecedented number of apparition photos since March. With Electromagnetic Field meters in hand, guests will roam the cemetery's 172-year-old grounds to conduct some research of their own during the Cemetery Investigation. Back inside the Gatehouse, dowsing rods, which are used to direct investigators toward spirits, will be available to test.
