Somehow, while touring Europe (twice), doing concerts throughout the U.S., dipping in and out of mixtapes and working on about a gazillion other projects, Reef the Lost Cauze found time to record another solo album. Over the years, we've become familiar with the West Philly MC's deadly freestyle, comedic wordplay and amusing stage show, but A Vicious Cycle (FU Pay Me) is a new direction. "This is grown-man music, it's very soulful, insightful and surprisingly very female-friendly," he says. He calls on familiar producers Eyego Direct, Stress (DJ and tour partner) and Marco Polo to lace him with tricked-out beats. Also featured are the fierce Ethel Cee; Canada's own Eternia; big-ass King Magnetic; and the one and only Termanology. "I've got a beard and a belly now," Reef laughs. "I can't keep rhyming about how good I am at rhyming. That's been proven, I think."
Fri., Oct. 17, 10 p.m., $7-$10, with Emynd and Bo Bliz, Fluid, 613 S. Fourth St., myspace.com/reefthelostcauze.
