Drummer Bobby Sanabria's Big Band Urban Folktales was one of the liveliest Afro-Cuban jazz hybrids to come along in recent memory. The album, perhaps reflecting the leader's multicultural South Bronx upbringing, placed "Besame Mucho" alongside Frank Zappa's "The Grand Wazoo" and attacked both with a combination of Latin jazz celebration and hard-bop intensity. Although his Quarteto Ache is much smaller in size, Sanabria drives the band with the same fervor, so expect a playful, feverish evening.
