Classical/jazz/rock

We may still have record bins and genre-specific radio stations, but the most interesting musicians and consumers of music don't care so much about boundaries. Composer David Laganella loves Mozart, but he is also an aficionado of the electric guitar and has written a treatise for contemporary composers who wish to incorporate that rebel sound into their music. As co-founder of Chamber Music Now! (along with fellow composer Richard Belcastro), he has been a strong proponent of the iPod shuffle school of musical appreciation. CMN will showcase the concept with their presentation of Flexible Music, a NYC-based ensemble that gleefully bounces among classical, jazz and rock sensibilities. The program will include a work of Laganella, as well as material from an eclectic band of twentieth-century masters, including Giacinto Scelsi, Jacob Druckman and Toru Takemitsu.
Sun., Nov. 16, 3 p.m., $12-$20, Settlement Music School, 416 Queen St., 800-595-4849, chambermusicnow.org.
