This new Girard Avenue sandwich shop from Modo Mio chef/owner Peter McAndrews puts a delicate spin on South Philly wax paper-wrapped standards. Choices include the namesake sandwich, featuring slow-roasted beef in its own jus, sweet and sour cabbage and pepperoncino; the Diavlo, a smoked all-beef wiener with potatoes and sweet peppers; and the Arista, featuring meat from a whole roasted suckling pig with jus, broccoli rabe and long hots. They're open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

"If you walk away from here and you're not full, there's something wrong," says Len Goldberg of King of Clubs, the takeaway he and Stuart Frankel have opened in what was formerly King Edward's Steaks. Goldberg, whose previous ventures include Lenny's Deli at 11th and Chestnut and the Franklintown Diner at 18th and Callowhill (now Sabrina's 2), is doing all-day breakfast (omelettes, pancakes, egg sandwiches, etc.), half-pound burgers, all-breast meat chicken cheesesteaks and carved turkey clubs (see the name). Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Tampopo
44 and Spruce streets

Located at the corner of 44th and Spruce, right next to Brendan Hartranft and Leigh Maida's forthcoming Local 44 Beer Bar, the third location of Ben Yu's Tampopo will feature similar choices to the Center City and Jeweler's Row locations, with the addition of ramen noodle soup options and additional vegetarian-friendly dishes. And just like the other two Tampopos, it'll be doubly BYOB (bring your own bottle, and bring your own bowl to receive a discount).

"East of Broad, south of Lombard and west of Queen Village" is all we could get out of Devil's Alley/Sam's Grill owner Susan Schlisman in regard to the location of a restaurant space she's close to acquiring; we hear it'll be a 125-seat spot focused on comfort food.
