Second Floor Grand Opening Party at The Institute
Sat., Dec. 20, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
Although nothing's cookin' quite yet (kitchen construction won't be finished for about a month), Institute owners Charlie and Heather Collazo have put the fire under plans to renovate their stake on 12th and Green. The Institute is partying upstairs on Dec. 20 to introduce their new floor, which features six four-person whiskey bar booths with flat-screens and personal Wii systems, a DJ booth and a second bar. Bartenders will be serving drink specials ($3.50 Tullamore Dew shots, $3.50 Bacardi and $3 pints of Walt Wit and Yards) to commemorate the expansion.

11th Annual Reindeer Romp
Thu., Dec. 18, 6 p.m.-2 a.m., $10 plus a canned good
'Tis the season for Philabundance charity events — as well as cheap, uninhibited drink specials. Local Fairmount bars and restaurants — Bishop's Collar, London Grill, Rembrandt's and the Urban Saloon, to name a few — are slimming down drink prices ($3 Sam Adams, $4 Finlandia vodka drinks) for the annual crawl. Trade a Hamilton and a canned good for a pair of bold red antlers, giving you free reign over all the neighborhood has to offer. Pick up your headgear at any of the multiple starting points — Bridgid's, McKenna's, Belgian Café or the Green Room — and follow the herd.

Sun., Dec. 14, 2-4 p.m., $15
When I went to Lollapalooza, I fell asleep during A Perfect Circle. My last Latkepalooza experience, on the other hand, was a much more memorable (and tastier) experience. Local restaurants gang up to share their takes on the traditional Hanukkah treat — Bar Ferdinand, Zahav, Sabrina's and Singapore Chinese Vegetarian are just a few of the participants. Bring the kids along for face painting, magic tricks and music by the Nashirah chorale. Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad St., 215-446-3012, gershmany.org.
