Sweet Caroline
It's interesting that the author mentions Lisa Marie Presley [News, Citizen Mom, Amy Z. Quinn, "Working Out My Caroline Issues," Dec. 25, 2008]. Everyone appears to have forgotten that Ms. Privacy Caroline Kennedy crashed Elvis' funeral to turn around and write a trashy article about it for Rolling Stone. [The blog] Third Estate's the only one I've seen to make that point. I think it matters especially now that she's saying yet again that her privacy is so important she can't make financial disclosures.

I read with great interest Amy Quinn's "Working [Out] my Caroline Issues." After the teaser that said "Why do I begrudge Kennedy the seat? Is it a lack of accomplishments? Of experience? Is it because of her celebrity?" I greatly anticipated a mea culpa from the left about Barry Obama's election. Or at least a satirical piece. But she was serious. Was she wearing her Obama Girl T-shirt with a little "I voted for Obama" button on it when she wrote the article? Or perhaps a "Yes, we did" hat?
It is incredible to me that anyone on the left would dare talk about accomplishments, experience or celebrity after the recent election.

The name of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's daughter was misspelled in Amy Quinn's Citizen Mom column in the Dec. 25th issue. Her name is Frances Bean, not Francis Bean.
An otherwise excellent issue, though. Good job getting it out before the holidays.
Keep up the great work. I'll keep reading.

I'm enlisted in the Regular Army, and about to do my second tour in Iraq come January [Opinion, Loose Canon, Bruce Schimmel, "Saved by the Army," Dec. 25, 2008]. For those with no other options, the military is probably the best way for a person to build their self-esteem. But, it's not for everyone, and if you have problems adjusting to a more harsh social environment, stay away from it!

Anthroman is a hoot [Opinion, Loose Canon, Bruce Schimmel, "Divided City? Anthroman to the Rescue," Dec. 18, 2008]. Sounds like W.E.B. Dubois is finally getting even. You know he did his Ph.D. dissertation at Penn on the Philly Black Elite, but they, unlike Amy Gutmann, didn't have the balls to give him a job at Penn circa 1900.

So nice to see this article [Arts, A.D. Amorosi, "Divine Performing Arts," Dec. 18, 2008]. I was amazed to see how great the author described this Divine Performing Arts. You cannot see it in China, so beautiful, and it exposed the truth of Falun Gong practitioners are being persecuted by Chinese Communist Party, so touching. Thank you for guiding readers to see the show.

In a local Center City coffee shop, I happened to read your piece on W. (as people of your ilk like to call him) and your offer to readers to write what they remember [Opinion, Editor's Letter, Brian Howard, "The Long Goodbye," Dec. 18, 2008].
George W. Bush is the current president of the United States (that I voted for in both elections). Historically, I've supported every president, regardless of political party affiliation. Thanks to people like you, though, I don't feel any desire to support H. (Hussein Obama) and I can certainly disparage H. anytime, anywhere, again because of people like you. "Mission Accomplished."
