Nothing wrong with Chopin and Mozart. Can't get enough of it. But it's also good to tweak the old eardrums with some adventure now and then. This program answers the call on a number of levels. The players, as is always the case with Astral Artists events, are the cream of the crop of the newest generation of musicians. The music, drawing on the last century and then some, comes from five nationalities (American, Argentinean, Italian, Russian and French), for a variety of combinations of cello (Babini), piano (Myer) and saxophone (O'Connor). A tangy mix of lively, at times spiky music — including fascinating material from Luciano Berio and Edison Denisov — lands in a big pillow, as the recital concludes with a singular masterpiece, the opulently passionate Sonata for Cello and Piano from Rachmaninoff.
Sun., Feb. 22, 3 p.m., $16, Trinity Center for Urban Life, 2212 Spruce St., 215-735-6999, astralartists.org.
