The music business tried to kill Throwing Muses, but Throwing Muses refuses to die. When Kristin Hersh couldn't afford to keep the band together, she channeled her considerable energy into her acoustic-based solo work and the hard-edged 50 Foot Wave, writing books, taking photos and home-schooling her sons. But six years after Throwing Muses — a welcome return to form that was itself seven years removed from their supposed swan song, Limbo — the band is back together and set to play a high-profile slot at the Breeders-curated All Tomorrow's Parties in May. Hersh, drummer David Narcizo and bassist Bernard Georges are opening their three-city warm-up tour with a Philly date, with Hersh and Georges doing double duty in 50 Foot Wave. If open-rehearsal video clips and early reports from Australia are any indication, we're in for powerful versions of hits and oddities from throughout the Muses' career. You can bet Hersh is thrilled with their resurrection, but with everything else she has going on — her eighth solo album, Speedbath, and 50 Foot Wave's fourth release, Power + Light, are due out any minute now, and her memoir isn't far behind — who knows when they'll pass this way again?
Tue., March 10, 8 p.m., $25-$35, with 50 Foot Wave and Screaming Females, World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400, worldcafelive.com.
