Slow Food Dinner at Geechee Girl Rice Café
Mon., March 30, 7 p.m., $44

Geechee Girl Rice Café honors the grain in its name with this Slow Food Philadelphia dinner. Chef Valerie Erwin will prepare four courses of her version of traditional South Carolina low country cuisine; dishes will include shrimp gumbo with Carolina gold rice; house-smoked pork with slow-cooked sea island red peas and melted cabbage; and cinnamon raisin bread pudding. Casa de la Ermita Wine Dinner at Bar Ferdinand
Wed., April 1, 7:30 p.m., $65

Bar Ferdinand is hosting a five-course wine dinner featuring the selections from Daniel Manacho of Bodegas Casa de la Ermita Winery in Spain. Chef Michael Thomas plans on whipping up food like carrot flan, a saffron rice-stuffed leg of lamb and marinated sardines. Manacho himself will host the event to speak about his various wines, from a subtle 2006 dulce blanco to a crisp and fruity 2007 Viognier. Call or go online for reservations. As part of a two-day wine-centric extravaganza benefiting the Philly chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (CP is a media sponsor), local restaurants and Terranova Imports are teaming up to present a weekend of good food and great vino. On Friday, local restaurants (Alison Two, London Grill, Moonstruck and seven more) will create special wine-paired four-course menus. The next day, check out a second event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Diamond Club at Citizens Bank Park — guests can sample food and drink, sit for educational sessions and learn the ins and outs of successful pairing. Festigiammo in Italiano at Reading Terminal Market

The bees are buzzing, the flowers are blooming and the smell of Italian food is lingering in the air at Reading Terminal Market. For its Festigiammo in Italiano spring celebration, La Cucina at the Market will host a cooking demo and class, as well as offer samples of signature Italian food. All the food will be based on the traditional plates of the Easter holiday, including torta di ricotta e grano, fritatta di asparagi and more. Call for reservations.
