They sounded like a punky "Planet Telex" on 2007's Waking Hungover from a Long Night of Sober, but in the time since, Except After Sea must have discovered Woody Guthrie and Sam Cooke. The Langhorne trio's shows have leaned distinctly Americana/soul lately, all acoustic slide guitar and more robust vocals. Even if the record they plan to drop in May isn't a new direction , we expect it'll be their most sophisticated showing.
