Guitarist Julian Lage is only 21 and just releasing his debut CD; yet he's already an old pro. The (barely) former child prodigy was the subject of a documentary at the age of 8 and was snapped up by vibist Gary Burton while still in his teens. On about a third of Sounding Point, Lage squares off with Béla Fleck and ex-Nickel Creek mandolinist Chris Thile, which indicates the direction he's taking: playfully virtuosic chamber-jazz with more than a hint of folkiness.
