Buy Shaver: "I Don't Know"

"I don't know how else to tell you": That loaded phrase is the focus of Buy Shaver's typographically appealing installation, in which those eight brightly painted words hang, one-per-panel, along two walls. "It's as much about minimalist painting as it is about someone trying to communicate something," says Shaver. "I Don't Know" is effective for the same reason Jenny Holzer's Truisms have had staying power: It means both nothing and anything.
