Sweetheart punks Comet Gain have been thinking up intellectual lo-fi since the early '90s. On their latest — Broken Record Prayers (What's Your Rupture?), an odds 'n' sods compilation from the latter half of their career — the Brits vacillate between driving tunes with a fuzzed-out urgency and love songs with a twee core. Says the liner notes: "We started as a joke and idea, we played broken songs on broken amps and cardboard drums and it never got much more professional." It's time to get in on the joke.
