How lo do you like your fi? Chain & The Gang, the latest project by Ian Svenonius (Nation of Ulysses, The Make Up), sometimes sounds like a guy with peanut-butter mouth singing through a baby monitor that's being held up to a Jack in the Box drive-thru. The new Down With Liberty ... Up With Chains! (K Records) comes off like a leaked demo tape, so muted and clanging. Still, everything's so moody and groovy and swaggering, it's kinda fun.
