OCP pairs up two of the 20th century's funniest short operas. Ravel's L' Enfant et les Sortilèges shows a rebellious kid pissing off his mother, getting grounded and acting out before tangling with creepy creatures (Where the Wild Things Are, anyone?). The score, boasting a duet for cats, is enchanting, droll and also quite touching. Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, on the other hand, is about as touching as a David Mamet play: Picture desperate family members scrounging for inheritances before the corpse gets cold.
