Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp do on their third album, Choral (Thrill Jockey), what Eno and Fripp started on Evening Star and No Pussyfooting. They extend ambient music motifs from synthesizer washes and guitar loops into something personal, pastoral and dark. Rather than remain in the light (and debt) of machine operations, Mountains go a bit further into the crankiness of aged field recordings and beat-up acoustic instrumentation on Choral for a truly earthen and eerie set of soundscapes that are breathtaking to behold.

I'm really looking forward to seeing mountains. By chance, I saw Kuschty Rye Ergot about a year ago in DC and was really impressed too. This sounds like a great show.
