Well, they never claimed to care about the young folks. Living Thing (Almost Gold) is PB+J's fourth or fifth album, depending on how you count, but it plays like a classic "difficult third." A far cry from the peppy jangle that made them everyone's favorite Swedish sandwich back in '06-'07, its blood-simple melodies are tethered to stripped-weird, percussion-heavy arrangements that rip a few pages from Lykke Li's perversely primitive Youth Novels (which Bjorn's Bjšrn Yttling produced). Its hookiest chorus is an unprintable slag-off. The second-hookiest, though, comes complete with a ragtag gaggle of singing kids. Maybe they do care after all.
