It takes a rare degree of unhinged aggression to be the noisier half of a group that also boasted Thurston Moore, Mats Gustafsson and Jim O'Rourke. But that trio's ex-Original Silence bandmates are Terrie Ex of Dutch avant-punks The Ex, Norwegian drum demon Paal Nilssen-Love and bassist Massimo Pupillo of Italian math-metal steamrollers Zu. Those creds promise a band that can out-jagged, out-bludgeon, and out-erupt any competition. Their CD, Clash, is hardly unremitting noise, but even at its most spacious, the music never seems to relax, simply to coil, snakelike, for the next attack.
