The exotic ain't what it used to be. In this age of effortless interconnectivity and global recombinant culture, it's hard to feel much frisson from even the wildest polyethnic juxtaposition, and not just because the post-colonialist PC paradigm conditioned all the fun out of it. Still, there's something appealingly unfamiliar about the Sidis, a centuries-old community of black Gujarati Sufis who represent the Indian branch of the African diaspora. Sidi Goma, a 12-man troupe of dancers and musicians, perform ecstatic and devotional rituals, upholding the tradition of traveling faqirs. Nowadays, of course, they have a MySpace page and an international booking agent; their wanderings bring them to Philly for the first time Saturday. And yes, they know how to party.
