Israeli Wine Dinner at Zahav
Thu., May 14, 5-10 p.m., $85

This coming Thursday, savor the flavors of the Middle East and the wines that pair with them best at this Israeli wine dinner prepared by Zahav chef/owner Michael Solomonov. The dinner will consist of five wine-accompanied courses, including tuna carpaccio served with Israeli caviar and mojama; blue nose bass with foie gras, grapes and grape leaves; and a dessert of fried malauch with roasted apricots, apricot sorbet and pistachio ice cream. Importer Richard Shaffer will pour and discuss wines exclusively from Israel, an ancient grape-growing region that's been producing some head-turning varieties in more recent years. Zahav, 237 St. James Place, 215-625-8800, zahavrestaurant.com.

Bob Marley Tribute at Rum Bar
Fri., May 8, 9 p.m., free admission

Rum Bar is asking Philadelphians to get up/stand up for their rights (to drink) by paying homage to one of the most important musicians of all time. This Bob Marley tribute night will feature Jamaican cuisine like spiced jerk wings and beef patties along with drink specials, including $5 cocktails named after some of Tuff Gong's most famous melodies. Guests will also have the chance to enjoy live music from reggae band Therapy while noshing on snacks. Rum Bar will take $1 off all drinks for those decked out in Rasta gear (a ratty Marley T-shirt from college doesn't count, folks). Rum Bar, 2005 Walnut St., 215-751-0404, rum-bar.com.

Mother's Day Champagne Brunch at Thirteen
Sun., May 10, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., $13-$24.99

What might your mom appreciate more than a generic card and a hurried phone call this Mother's Day? How about a Champagne brunch? On Sunday, Thirteen will unveil a savory breakfast buffet featuring items like braised beef shortribs, pan-seared sea bass, mac 'n' cheese with herb gremolata and a prime rib station. Other more traditional breakfast items — potato and leek hash, made-to-order omelettes, breakfast pastries — will also be part of the feast. A complimentary glass of bubbly is included in the meal, priced at $24.99 for adults ($13 for kiddies). Thirteen at Philadelphia Marriott, 1201 Market St., 215-625-6795.

Monday Tasting Menu at Blackfish
Mondays through June 15 (except May 25), 5-10 p.m., $45

Every Monday until June 15, Blackfish chef/owner Charles "Chip" Roman will create a four-course, $45 tasting highlighting a different main ingredient each week (think Iron Chef). This coming Monday, the menu will honor the humble crab, featuring dishes like dungeness crab consommé and galette de crab "Georges Perrier" (that's Roman honoring his old Le Bec-Fin boss). Pain perdu with crab apple mostarda will end the meal, since crustaceans, while endlessly tasty, don't quite lend themselves to dessert. Blackfish Restaurant, 119 Fayette St., Conshohocken, 610-397-0888, blackfishrestaurant.com.
