When I heard Philly's Mr. Lif had pushed back the release of I Heard It Today from Inauguration Day to April 2009, I imagined that hip-hop's answer to Amiri Baraka was going to find its political impact blunted. Its agenda was so tied up in a collapsing economy and Obama's nohew New Deal initiatives, that it might seem dated and paranoid. Nope. It's all fresh, funky and paranoid — full of scorn for the FCC, the feds and the material world as a whole. Phew.
