Like much of the work in this group show of contemporary Cuban art, Cirenaica Moreira's Freedom Is an Enormous Word (pictured, right) is not easy to look at: It exposes the usually unseen realities of Cuban life in the starkest terms. "There's a pin through her forehead, showing that her mind is under constant attack by the government," explains curator Lennox Campello. "Her eyes are bandaged, to say, 'I'm not allowed to see everything I want to see.'" Some pieces by Alex Queral and Aimeé García Marrero (whose Aliento is pictured, left) are less wrenching, but others reveal a painful longing for the homeland. "Once you have someone discuss the narrative, people become much more interested," says Campello, who will offer context and backstory at his Friday talk.
