Slow Food Philadelphia Pig Roast Fundraiser
Sat., May 30, 1-4 p.m., $38

Slow Food USA holds fundraising events throughout the year to support both local projects and ventures abroad. With this in mind, Slow Food's Philly chapter is hosting its annual pig roast at Philadelphia Brewing Co. to support local farmers, artisanal food producers and efforts to assume responsible lake management in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Diners will enjoy roast pork with vegetarian side dishes and desserts prepared by West Philly's Rx. The fundraiser will take place in PBC's courtyard, meaning keg-fresh brews will also be available for the sipping. Tickets available at brownpapertickets.com/event/66890. Philadelphia Brewing Co., 2423 Amber St., 215-427-2739, slowfoodphilly.org.

Chimay Beer and Cheese Tasting at Jose Pistola's
Thu., May 21, 5-10 p.m., $7 sampler platters

What goes best with artisanal cheese? How about a little beer from the same source? That's the idea behind Jose Pistola's Chimay tasting, going down tonight from 5 to 10. Chimay, of course, is world-renowned beer cultivated by Belgium's Trappist community — and the monks' cheeses are produced with the same high standards, using only regional milk. Diners will have a chance to try both products in sampler platters. The restaurant will have Chimay White on tap throughout the evening, with Chimay Red and Blue by the bottle. Guests will also be able to nibble on various accoutrements especially prepared for the beers. Jose Pistola's, 263 S. 15th St., 215-545-4101, josepistolas.com.

Around the World With Alison Barshak
Wed., May 27, 5:45-7:45 p.m., $65

Feeling fishy about seafood? Alison Barshak, chef/owner of Alison at Blue Bell and Alison Two, will cast away your fears with this cooking demonstration at the Reading Terminal Market. Barshak will host a two-hour class dedicated to teaching you how to create a seasonal meal with fruits of the sea. Participants will learn how to create easy dishes, inspired by local ingredients, that still incorporate flavors from around the globe. Reading Terminal Market, 1136 Arch St., 215-922-1170, readingterminalmarket.org.

Ms. Tootsie's Finally Fridays
Fridays, 5-10 p.m., pricing varies

At the end of a long week, many of us are more than happy to ditch the wingtips and stilettos for some slippers and a night in front of the TV. Ms. Tootsie's, however, has a different idea of how we should be kicking off our weekends. Every Friday, the restaurant/lounge hosts a five-hour-long special featuring reduced-priced eats, beers and cocktails. Diners can enjoy $5 martinis, Coronas and appetizers, which include deviled eggs, buffalo or jerk wings, mini waffles and wingettes and spicy jumbo lump crab cakes. Ms. Tootsie's Restaurant Bar Lounge, 1312 South St., 215-985-9001, kevenparker.net.
