Over the past eight years, while older galleries shut down, scrappy new collectives crowded the scene and a hundred contemporary art trends came and went, Bridgette Mayer's eponymous gallery — opened when she was just 27 years old — has remained an influential local fixture. Mayer organized this anniversary show to celebrate Philly's diverse community of artists and to benefit Back on My Feet, a local nonprofit that helps the homeless build self-sufficiency through running. (Opening night will kick off with a Back on My Feet run starting at Washington Square Park at 5:15 p.m.) The salon-style exhibition will feature work by 77 artists including Eileen Neff, Alex Paik, Tristin Lowe, Rebecca Rutstein (whose I see a clearing out of this mess is pictured) and three Back On My Feet members. All of the 100 pieces were created on 10-by-10-inch panels, but artists were free to paint them, cut holes in them, put screens in them or even take them apart completely.
Opening reception Fri., June 5, 6-8:30 p.m., exhibition through July 31, free, Bridgette Mayer Gallery, 709 Walnut St., 215-413-8893, mayerartconsultants.com. View more images at citypaper.net/arts.
