San Francisco's loss will become Philly's gain when painter Matthew Palladino moves here this autumn. With watercolor on cold pressed paper or acrylic ink and gouache, Palladino's visually arresting paintings pop with collage-like intensity. Tigers, race relations, gang members at peace and in drive-by, ghosts — these are all part of Palladino's bag of tricks. Brooklyn gets to keep Eric Shaw, whose tribal-tattooed monstrosities come across like a mix of embroidery and stained glass. Our loss.
