You likely wouldn't go to the ballet just for the music, but you might make an exception for Pennsylvania Ballet's latest program, featuring Peter Martins' Barber Violin Concerto. The stellar score is just as immensely eloquent and challenging as Martin's choreography, which cleverly juxtaposes classical and modern steps in a series of entrancing duets of escalating energy. To heighten that contrast even more, PAB also presents the über-romantic La Sylphide, a love story between man and forest fairy. The granddaddy of all ballets, it's regarded as the oldest in the classical rep.
