Lindsay Duggan used to hawk her messenger bags the hard way — by biking across the states, relying mostly on word of mouth and crowds at cycling events to sustain her. Now, after five years of aggressively selling her goods in person, online and at independent retailers, she's getting just desserts and opening up her own shop in G-Ho.
Girl.Bike.Dog. offers a range of items for, well, girls, bikes and dogs, including handmade bags, dog collars, dog beds, hip pouches and other accessories. The backpacks in particular have a certain charm, featuring multicolored straps and quirky illustrations of things like bulls, stars and bicycle gears, as well as lots of space for hefty loads. (The largest bag is 16 inches wide, 13 inches deep and 21 inches tall.) Packs run from $180 to $260, and can be customized to fit your body size.
Duggan expects the product line to grow, but emphasizes that the new items will still be geared toward creatures with four legs, an XX chromosome or two wheels. "This will be a space for people to sell their handmade products," she says, "whether it be a bike rack or a screen-print of a dog."
Lindsay is, by far, the most creative (and most down-to-earth)seamstress in the city.
Her bags are for the people.
