If not for Obama, you might never have heard the name Shepard Fairey. Curated by artist-in-residence Jeff Cylkowski, the Asian Arts Initiative's latest exhibit celebrates the confluence of genres and merging of pop and high art as seen in media, merchandising — even the brand marketing of Fairey's posters in last year's presidential election. From painter Isaac Lin, whose intricate designs pop off his Art in the Age tees, to Jesse Olanday's manga that graces the surface of many a R.E.Load bag, "Urban Convergence" spotlights artists who fuel the crossover, bleeding art into our everyday lives.
