On the third, self-titled full-length (Shake It Records) from Cincinnati's Wussy, gnarled guitars and subtle rhythms form the perfect backing for Chuck Cleaver and Lisa Walker's literate, grown-up musings. But this isn't polite Starbucks music. Wussy captures life in all its messy disappointments and tiny graces, while callower groups pursue Pitchfork plaudits to mask their paucity of ideas. Songs like "Muscle Cars" and "Dreadful Sorry" feel almost unbearably emotionally raw. This band demands attention.
