Stoke your patriotic stirrings with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's production of a Tony-winning musical that holds up well 40 years after its première — and 233 since the historic bickering among the 13 colonies about declaring independence in "foul, fuming, fetid, foggy, filthy Philadelphia" (some things never change). Richard Watson's fervent "obnoxious and disliked" John Adams leads a strong cast who make our near-deified Founding Fathers human, and, though we all know the outcome, Dennis Razze's production highlights the musical's charms and the story's significance.
