At the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, artists, musicians and writers take advantage of residential fellowships — two-week to two-month stints to explore their creative psyches. But fellowships don't grow on trees. Enter "A Cause for Art," a fundraising exhibition featuring 31 juried artists and benefiting the Alonzo Davis Fellowship Fund, which supports residencies of Latino and African-American artists. Davis himself, who uses unorthodox textures like leather to produce woven paintings and prints, will show his work alongside artists like Tatana Kellner, who creates abstract paintings depicting unassuming characters in awkward, eerily beautiful poses (pictured). Host Sande Webster Gallery will sell all of the artwork throughout the summer while an online auction continues indefinitely — so you'll have plenty of time to help keep the creative cycle churning.
