Cheesesteak Bike Tour with Carolyn Wyman
Sat., July 11, noon-6 p.m., free (RSVP required)

On June 25, we featured food writer/CP copy editor Carolyn Wyman's (right) picks for the 10 best under-the-radar cheesesteaks in the area. Here's your chance to meet the author for a 12-mile cheesesteak bike through the city, starting at Sonny's and Campo's in Old City and visiting Johnny's Hots, Tony Luke's, Philip's and Cosmi's before ending at Pat's and Geno's. It's free to ride with our expert, and $2 tasting portions and autographed copies of her latest work, The Great Philadelphia Cheesesteak Book (Running Press), will be available for purchase. Participants must register ahead of time by e-mailing list@greatphillycheesesteakbook.com (put "Bike Ride" in the subject line). For more info, visit greatphillycheesesteakbook.com.

Fairmount Bastille Day Festival
Thu.-Sun., July 9-12, various times, free

While the Fairmount Bastille Day Festival will kick off Thursday evening with a bar crawl, the true Francophile fun will begin on Friday at 5:30, when more than 2,000 Tastykakes will be violently, hilariously flung from behind the Eastern State Penitentiary walls in a re-enactment of the Storming of the Bastille. (Terry Berch McNally, owner of London Grill, will reprise her long-running role as Marie Antoinette.) Guests can arrive early to check out street vendors, and stay well into the evening for a sampling of neighborhood bar and restaurant specials. For more info, visit easternstate.org.

Doris Day Brunch at Q BBQ
Sun., July 12, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., $25-$40

Part of QFest's taking of Philadelphia (see our coverage), this Doris Day-themed meal at Q BBQ & Tequila will replace whatever masculine traits go along with smoked meats and temporarily replace them with flowers and dessert. Diners can jump into Q's brunch menu and try out Double D-inspired fare like peach angel food cake. For a little extra, pick up a combination ticket so you can catch a screening of Day's Pillow Talk. Q BBQ & Tequila, 207 Chestnut St., 215-625-8605, qoldcity.com.

Summer Staycation Beer Tasting at World Café Live
Wed., July 15, 7 p.m., $25

Who needs salt water taffy when we all know Philly's got the best beer? World Café Live is hosting summer beer tastings every Wednesday. Next week they're repping Brooklyn style, celebrating with samples from Six Point, Blue Point, Kelso and Brooklyn. Free live music from guitarist Chris Ayer should help the borough-based brews to go down that much easier. World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400, worldcafelive.com

XMas in July
Fri., July 10, 6-9 p.m., $4-$10

When the heat starts going to your head, hearing a little "Jingle Bells" and sipping on some Kris Kringle-approved brew can have a fantastic chilling effect. This Friday at Grey Lodge Pub, they're offering up Christmas beers like Corsendonk Xmas Ale, Tršegs Mad Elf and more. Hesh's Bakery will supply red-and-green baked treats, free with the purchase of an entrée. Grey Lodge Pub, 6235 Frankford Ave., 215-825-5357, greylodge.com.
