Mica Levi's musical output to date has veered from blitzkrieg grime/dubstep mixtapes to an orchestral commission for the London Philharmonic. On Jewellery, the precocious 22-year-old's Rough Trade debut, she and her band The Shapes (with production assistance from minimal techno quirkmeister Matthew Herbert) venture into different territory entirely, surveying punkish experimental noise and severely art-damaged pop with gleefully scrappy energy and a couple of homemade/repurposed instruments. Hopefully they'll be bringing their vacuum cleaner along to the World Cafe this Friday, 'cause things might get messy.
