He sounds like a full rock band, but Cass McCombs has always been a solo singer/songwriter. His new Catacombs (Domino) — full of catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics — opts for a more professional, clean sound over the low-fi bedroom fuzz that layered his previous two albums. If we're lucky, he'll dust off 2005's "City of Brotherly Love" at the Khyber on Friday.
