Pterodactyl isn't as tough as it thinks it is. Sure, the Brooklynites' distorted guitars and screeching vocals often sound as ragged as The Flaming Lips' Hear It Is, a good study of what happens when punk and psych rock slide up against each other. But there's something sweeter and saner about Pterodactyl's Worldwild (Jagjaguwar) — they have nice voices, and slowly build up to wacky collisions of drumming and shouting, rather than launching into them right off the bat. Plus, they don't sing about Jesus shooting heroin. They're classy like that.
