JAZZ/PROG
If, in the course of one show, a performer takes the guise of a synthesizer genius, a prog-metal superstar and a free-jazz master, then yes, that qualifies as an adventure. For this Adventure — making its first (and perhaps only) appearance on Johnny Brenda's bead-backed stage on Saturday — Bernie Worrell has handpicked his favorite Philadelphia improvisational gurus: brothers Yanni and Alexi Papadopoulos (of Stinking Lizaveta) and drummer Calvin Weston (of Ornette Coleman fame). Nobody, band included, knows exactly what's going to happen.
Sat., Aug. 8, 9 p.m., $12, with Black Landlord, Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 866-468-7619, johnnybrendas.com.
