Music & Motion Dance is getting personal. Ever since Steven Weisz founded the company in 2000, he's wanted to create chemistry among the dancers for a more emotional product; that's why he's giving his dancers the freedom to choose their own songs and choreograph their own dances. This performance series, which will be reprised during Philly Fringe in the fall, is a tribute to the nine muses of Greek mythology who presided over science and the arts. "9 Muses" is also a sculpture series at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, N.J., where one of the performances will take place. "We picked songs we can relate to," says Andrea Piovane, a six-year Music & Motion member. "It's amazing the emotion you feel that comes out in the songs."
