Tori Amos is hitting town a week before her birthday, but it seems this Leo's forgotten she's a fire sign. Of the hundred or so songs in rotation on her tour to promote Abnormally Attracted to Sin (Universal), she's most drawn to those that embody earth, air and water. But it doesn't have to be that way. In the infancy of her career, Amos was the spurned and burned other woman in "Fire on the Side," a lovely torch song barely concealed by '80s synth-pop production. Twenty-one years later, "Fire to Your Plain" finds her on the other side of the equation, a married mom keeping a wise eye on her romantic rival. And she doesn't let her man forget it: "I gotta get this right / 'Cause she's up and I am low," she warns over throwback synths, "Watching you watching her play this game." There are warmer moments on the record, but here's where her spark is.
